Film Reviews

Film reviews and where to see them - new releases, repertory screenings, music documentaries and open-air cinema across the cities Mood covers.

Reviews of what is screening now - new releases, repertory nights, festival titles and the music documentaries that reward a big room. We write about what the film does rather than what it is about, and every review links to the screenings near you, including the open-air cinemas that make an Athenian summer worth staying for.

Practical Magic 2 Review: Nostalgia Carries a Sequel the Story Can't

Practical Magic 2 reunites Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as the Owens sisters, twenty-eight years after the original, with Sally choosing to hide the family's witch history from her own daughters after her husband dies from the Owens curse. Critics have been unimpressed - a Rotten Tomatoes score in the high 30s - while audiences have responded far more warmly, above 90%, largely on the strength of Bullock and Kidman's chemistry rather than the story around them. In Mood's data, it's also this week's widest release in Athens: 39 screenings across 29 cinemas and open-air venues, ahead of Fatherland and The Odyssey. Full listings are on Mood.

Frequently asked questions
What films does Mood review?

Mood reviews films currently screening in the cities it covers - new releases, repertory and festival programming, and music documentaries in particular. Each review links to the screenings you can actually book.

What is the difference between Film and Cinema on this blog?

Film reviews judge an individual film. The Cinema category is broader: screening guides, open-air cinema listings, festival coverage and the venues themselves.
