Price Index

What it costs to walk into an Athens room on a Friday, taken from the venues' own published prices. The Greek convention makes this one number do two jobs: είσοδος με ποτό - the door includes your first drink. So the door is not a cover charge with the bar bill on top; it is the bar bill, paid at the entrance.

Two Athens models sit side by side above, and neither is a ticket. The big rooms sell είσοδος με ποτό; the others sell no door at all and earn on the table, at €80–100 a bottle. Underneath both is a third city - Romantso and the rooms like it, running free or near-free - and a fourth that publishes nothing at all: the small techno and live rooms settle the price on the night, which is why no list of their doors exists here or anywhere else. Where a Greek room does sell a ticket instead, that is the ladder below.

The cheapest ticket, by genre

Where a Greek event does sell a ticket, this is the lowest tier it published - the early-bird floor, not the typical price paid, and not the club door above. Across 15 genres it runs from €9.00 (Rock) to €15.00 (Melodic House). Read the order of the rungs, which is the part that holds; the levels are floors and sit well under what a mainstream Greek concert charges.

The one basket that compares cleanly: a 0.5L draught at a venue (Numbeo, July 2026) and a cocktail in a downtown club (Expatistan, July 2026) - same item, same source, same month, all eight cities. Two of each. Pick a city; the till reprints.

There is no honest "average door price", and checking the venues one by one is what shows why. Greece sells είσοδος με ποτό - entry with your first drink - as a named national convention, and both Greek cities here do it. Elsewhere it is a choice each room makes rather than a country trait: in Barcelona, Razzmatazz includes a drink and Sala Apolo, a few minutes away, does not. Berlin sells a flat cash door, Bucharest and Paris sell entry alone, and the tiered rooms sell the same night at three prices depending when you buy. Averaging any of that together would produce a number describing nowhere. So: named venues, published prices, no averages.

The same night, three prices

Where a room publishes every tier, it publishes its own markup. This is the same event on the same night, bought at three different moments - and it is the reason a "from" price is not a price.

Live music's price floor and ceiling are 24× apart - and the whole ladder is real, current and sourced. One rung is ours, highlighted: Mood's own Athens median, dropped into the European scale so you can see exactly where a real Greek door lands against published averages. Bar lengths are square-root scaled so the floor stays visible next to the ceiling.

The genre bill

The only cross-genre price table that exists anywhere - an analysis of ~800 Pollstar-tracked tours, 2017–2021, North American top tours, USD. Dated, and labelled as such: no newer per-genre table has been published by anyone.

Published tariff components only - flagfall and per-kilometre, day tariff (Numbeo, July 2026). We don't invent a "typical fare": night multipliers differ by city and most aren't published in one place. The per-km rate is the honest comparison.

The night's last transaction is the most honest inflation gauge a city has. Athens counts in souvlaki; Berlin counts in Döner. Different products - so charted, never ranked.

The macro picture behind the bill: superstar tickets inflated far past inflation while the grassroots stood still, clubs kept closing, and the night itself moved earlier.

• How the Athens door was priced (§ 01). Each venue's own published price, taken from the page it appears on and dated there - a booking listing, a venue price list or, for Romantso, a named editorial source. Nothing is averaged across venues and nothing is estimated: the €10–15 band is simply the lowest and highest published door among the rooms that charge one and include a drink. Rooms that publish no door are shown as what they are - table only, no cover, or free - never folded into the band.
• What the band does and does not cover. These are Athens's larger rooms, the ones that publish. The small techno and live rooms settle entry on the night and put no number online, so no list of them exists here - a real gap, and the reason the band should be read as the published door, not as every door in the city. The drink join uses the same Expatistan club-cocktail and Numbeo venue-beer figures as § 02, so both sides of it are like-for-like and dated July 2026; the night total adds only the remaining three drinks of the round, never the full four, because the first one is already inside the door price.
• The genre ladder (§ 01). Mood's own catalogue of Greek events, August 2025–August 2026: for each event that published a ticket we take the lowest tier it listed, then the median of those per genre. So a rung is an early-bird/presale floor, which is why it is labelled the cheapest ticket and never an entry price - the typical buyer pays more, and a mainstream Greek concert far more. Two limits worth stating: the ordering of the genres is the robust part, not the levels; and only a small share of catalogued events publish a ticket at all, so this describes ticket-selling events, not Greek nightlife. Genres are multi-tag, so one event can sit on several rungs and the rows must never be totalled. Values under €2 are read as booking fees and excluded.
• How the rest of the report is sourced. Numbeo, Expatistan, Pollstar, NTIA, MVT and the venues' own price lists, each carrying its own link and date. Every one earns its place by testing something else on the page: the round sizes the €10–15 Athens door against what the same night charges for drinks, the ticket ladder places it on the European scale from an £8 Proms standing place upward, and Pollstar's genre bill sets US touring prices beside it. Held to like-for-like comparison and never summed across methods - the join is stated, so you can check it.
• The round. Draught beer (0.5L, domestic, at a venue) from each city's Numbeo page, July 2026, with per-city update dates and contributor counts (Athens 314, Thessaloniki 131, Amsterdam 251, Paris 258, Berlin 312, London 444, Barcelona 297, Bucharest 313). Cocktail ("in downtown club") from each city's Expatistan page, all marked current as of July 2026. Both are crowd-sourced averages - one consistent method across all eight cities, which is exactly what makes them comparable. Thessaloniki's sample is the thinnest and is daggered accordingly.
• Currency. Sterling and lei converted at ECB euro foreign exchange reference rates, 2026-07-29: £1 = €1.1677, 1 leu = €0.1910. Historical figures (the genre bill, Pollstar series) are shown in their original currency and never converted at today's rate.
• What we refused to publish. No city-average door price - entry products differ too much between cities to average. No summed taxi fares - the published components are day-tariff, and night multipliers vary; the one derived fare on this page (Athens night, 5 km) is computed from the regulated tariff and labelled as arithmetic. Paris's crowd-sourced flagfall likely reflects the regulated minimum fare and is flagged where it appears.
• The genre bill is dated on purpose. The FinanceBuzz/Pollstar analysis covers 2017–2021 and no newer cross-genre table exists from any primary source. We publish it with its window in the heading rather than pretend a fresher number exists.
